Treatment Modalities

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT strategies are based on the theory that maladaptive behavioral patterns like substance abuse, learning-processes play a critical role. Swift River clients in CBT learn to identify and correct problematic thoughts that lead to undesirable behaviors. Utilizing a range of skills, this type of therapy can be used to stop drug misuse and address other problems that often co-occur with it.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

A modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), DBT holds its roots in mindfulness. At Swift River, DBT allows clients to make a commitment to the core conditions of acceptance and change through the principle of dialectics. DBT helps patients deal with their emotions in a healthy, calm and mindful manner.

Adventure Therapy

With over 500 acres of rolling countryside in the Berkshire Mountains, there is plenty to explore on the Swift River grounds. Doing so allows for the renewal of human spirit through adventure. Some of the distinguishing features on our campus include a high and low ropes challenge course, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, as well as ATV/RZR vehicles to explore the acreage with counselors.

Art Therapy

For decades, the process of creating art has been understood to produce therapeutic benefits. At Swift River, we know that art therapy allows our clients to learn a new way to express themselves, explore their emotions, manage their addictions and improve their self-esteem.

Eye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)

EMDR is a psychotherapy that emphasizes disturbing memories as a cause of psychopathology. EMDR is often used to help with the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
