Activities
Too often when asked what a child likes to do a parent will say "I don't know, they used to like so many things and gave them up." This is a place for students to rediscover those passions, interests, hobbies and try out some new ones.
Our vibrant residential life program gives students valuable opportunities to explore and experiment. We offer sports such as basketball, sand volleyball, golf, tennis, and lacrosse. For the creative spirit, we offer private music lessons, art lab, ceramics, photography and sewing. The Academy offers a comprehensive art program designed to support students at all different levels of artistic ability. From the Freshman student who would like to experiment with photography to the Senior art student preparing a portfolio for art school they will find the resources they need. We invite you to take a glimpse at the Adventure ASR Scrapbook and recent gallery of our student's artwork.
We offer an ever expanding list of clubs to join which change every 12 weeks including: fly fishing, summer sports, ceramics, anime, dance, yoga and martial arts. Running is probably the most informal of clubs at the Academy. Over the past several years students have begun to take advantage of the 27 cross-country ski trails on our campus by running and biking. Students have competed in several five and 10 K runs in the local area.
The Adventure ASR program provides the opportunity for our students to challenge themselves physically and emotionally with healthy outdoor sports such as rock climbing, whitewater kayaking, cross-country and downhill skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, canoeing and overnight camping. This is staffed by experienced outdoor professionals and operates both on off campus.
Off campus trips include dinner and the movies, museums, local arts festivals, ski and adventure trips. Staff are always open to new suggestions, all it takes is a common interest.
Students also discover that service is an important tradition at Academy at Swift River. Our students make a difference in the lives of others through participation in a number of community outreach projects. Our students can be found revitalizing playgrounds, rebuilding homes, working in animal shelters, nursing homes and homeless shelters throughout Hampshire County.
