Spring into Sports
by Jackie MacNeish, PE Coordinator/Pathways Supervisor

Track was a huge hit this early spring! On any given day even in the rain you could see the group doing drills of high knees, butt kicks, side shuffles, lunges, high skips, grape vine and backwards running, as well as some stretching, sit-ups, pushups, and of course a couple of laps around the loop. There has even been talk of taking an off campus trip to run a 5K.

In the hiking group, staff and students were a bit unsure what they would find in the woods each evolving week of spring. They seemed to go from slipping around on the snow to mud mucking to leaping over downed branches and, finally, to beautiful spring walks. But the group more often than not came back with smiles, having enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine.

For the second part of this spring term, sports will include lacrosse, soccer, track, basketball, and weight training. Any day now we are expecting a new weight lifting machine donated by Jack Hafey, who leads our campus AA meetings. This will give our weight training group more space, more machines, and more muscles to work out! Also, Fabian is offering another specialized six week class in Muay Thai this spring that students have been looking forward to since last autumn. And as the weather continues to get warmer, we'll be back in the swing of tennis, softball, baseball, football, volleyball and all those other wonderful outdoor sports.
